For days I've been passing by a certain spot in Calle la Ronda, following the progress of the latest staircase being built.
Whenever I'm watching a sunset, I normally miss the moment the sun disappears into the horizon. I’m usually distracted by everything happening around this.
It's Malinche tree blooming season. All bright orange patches you see in mountains now are Royal Poincianas or Flamboyants. Soon after they get completely covered by their large orange-reddish flowers the trees produce hanging seed pods. These pods are quite long- up to 75cms- and wood like... Kids ...
A common question we get while talking with people interested in booking a stay in town is "how far away are the different options from the beach, the restaurant and the Beach Club?". I had an estimate but thought this morning I should actually time myself.
This week there have been large flocks of Frigate birds either flying very, very high, or flying low over the Pitaya islands.
This morning there is a lovely clear blue sky, but the first “aguacero” of the year has fallen. There was a sudden dark gray sky, a low rumble of some far away thunder, the smell we had been waiting for for months, and finally that sound of strongly pouring rain. I have always related walks in the ...
We had the first nighttime rain in quite a while. It's amazing how with just a few showers green starts popping up from the ground, in twigs and tree branches. Soon the golden mountains will be all green again.
Walking around town at night is quite magic. After certain time it is all calm and quiet, with warm lights on the streets and a few lights still on inside houses. Normally skies are full of stars, unless as these nights, the moon is so bright you can see perfectly well even in the trails and at the ...
Easter Egg hunt beach style! Hundreds of eggs at the Beach and along Paseo del Mar. It’s one of my favourite days in town, along with the TRI and Halloween. Such an anticipated hunt, specially for the the kids that live here and those coming every year... They sure help the Easter Bunny keep ...
Normally March in Guanacaste is quite warm, with not much wind and cloudless blue skies. This year has been slightly different: A little less hot, with more breeze and even some clouds. Two days ago, while passing by the Monkey trail a few drops fell on my windscreen from a very gray cloud. It ...
Julio is the best for keeping us up to date on what happens in town during the wee hours. This is the third time in six years he has been able to see an armadillo from up close. Thanks Julio!
In front of Stucasa there are several cacti and one of them was just in bloom. These flowers are not often seen, and they only last a day. This one is a Harrisia fragrans which is quite a rare species. It’s known as fragrant prickly apple and Caribbean applecactus. The flowers smell amazing, ...
So many people miss their dogs while travelling, I sure do so! Everyone is welcome to join Pula & Bubbs for hikes in the trails this March. Every Tuesday for a morning hike at 7am, and every Friday for a Sunset hike to McHenry peak at 5pm. Meeting point is at LaPula shop, and they will be very ...
Today we had a sunset sail for guests... Great chance to explore the area by sea, get together and meet other families staying in town. With a little clouds, there's a pretty good chance of a fantastic sunset.
Spring break is here! It's been a great weekend with many guests arriving, and very happy with the sun, warm weather and cool refreshing water at the beach. It´s fun to see the kids enjoying town in different ways, here setting up their improvised relaxation area.
