This morning there is a lovely clear blue sky, but the first “aguacero” of the year has fallen. There was a sudden dark gray sky, a low rumble of some far away thunder, the smell we had been waiting for for months, and finally that sound of strongly pouring rain. I have always related walks in the rain, or just after, to a sense of great well being. It’s a truly magic combination of stillness and peace, noticeably cleaner and fresher air, the visually refreshing chance to see things in a different perspective; reflections of lights on puddles, darker lighting, deeper tones. And then there is the smell, that earthly combination of soil, plant oils and ozone that just has an immediate effect on the mind.
