The recent extreme heat conditions in the country, exacerbated by the El Niño phenomenon and the absence of trade winds, have resulted in record temperatures for the month of March. This is especially prominent in the regions of Guanacaste and the Central Valley.

The IMN forecasted that these extreme heat conditions will persist throughout the nation for the rest of the week. In the North Pacific, temperatures close to 40°C are expected during the day, with the possibility of exceeding these levels at certain times. Starting next Monday, we expect relief from the heatwave as the trade winds are forecasted to pick up in intensity.

The IMN recommends that the population take preventive measures to cope with high temperatures, such as staying hydrated, avoiding prolonged sun exposure, and following the instructions of local authorities.  We suggest scheduling outdoor activities for times outside of the peak heat hours, and while outdoors, it's advisable to apply sunscreen, seek shaded areas, or utilize hats and umbrellas for added protection. Remember to stay hydrated to beat the heat.
