2023 Town Growth Report for Las Catalinas, Part Two

Today we continue on with the Town Growth Report for 2023, delving into the second chapter of Las Catalinas' thoughtful construction. Join us as we recap town's ongoing transformation, where residential expansion converges with a diversified array of offerings for both residents and visitors.

July

Plaza Papaya celebrated its grand inauguration in July. The plaza is dedicated to a beloved canine companion, Papaya, known for her daily presence with her owner Diego, and the construction inspection team. Plaza Papaya’s central fountain serves as a water mirror, inviting both two and four-legged visitors to indulge in playful splashes. A bronze statue of Papaya the dog, lounging with her trademark tongue hanging out, adds a delightful touch. Surrounding the fountain are two pairs of trees—a fragrant ylang-ylang and a shade-providing almond tree. Over the next few years, these trees will grow, offering ample shade coverage to the plaza.

In another culinary delight, Celeste Restaurant had a soft opening this month, featuring the first cocktail reception in the enchanting Canopy Lounge upstairs. The space is adorned with cool, clean colors and contemporary elements. The carefully chosen color palette pays homage to the restaurant's name, "Celeste," which translates to "sky blue" in Spanish. Celeste is reminiscent of a perfect beach day—clear skies, the mesmerizing view of the ocean, and the soothing sound of waves, inviting patrons to cast aside their worries and immerse themselves in the beauty of the moment. The restaurant's outdoor seating provides a delightful view of the sun dipping below the water.

August

Danta Tech opened its doors in August, giving town a one-stop tech shop. For those seeking a sound system, a phone charger, or to copy or print, Danta Tech has you covered. They also offer robust IT support, repairs, home automation, and rentable co-working offices.

A new Community Board has been installed to communicate local events. It is situated off Calle Danta to the left of Danta Tech.

September

By September despite the rain, the grey works of 33 Paseo del Parque have reached the roof level.

Las Catalinas welcomes a fully completed project, 17 Paseo Punta Penca to the neighborhood. It is a stunning five-bedroom home with an infinity-edge lap pool designed by Arosemena & Way, built by Alfa Co. with DCL Design & Construction Administration.

October

Plaza Mercado took center stage as the heart of Halloween celebrations, hosting a spectacular trick-or-treating fiesta that reverberated throughout town.

The construction pace of El Prado has been nothing short of impressive during the month of October. On Monday, October 9th, an electrical crew started the medium and low voltage installation. High voltage from the street lines must be converted into a lower current for household or commercial use in town. Transformers were connected first, and then the disconnects followed. The disconnects act as large switches to turn on or off incoming power from the public street lines to the project.  Transformers were installed in Terraced Flats units 75, 76, and 77, the first homes to be delivered this year. The development of the wastewater treatment plant in El Prado remains in progress, while the headway on the potable water tanks has left civil engineering enthusiasts in awe.

Tamaki brought the tantalizing flavors of Nikkei cuisine to Plaza Mercado, presenting a distinctive fusion of Peruvian and Japanese culinary delights. The visionary design concept, featuring a Japanese open kitchen and tasting bar, was crafted by Taller Ken. The construction administration was handled by DCL, working in collaboration with builder Donicon. Infusing warmth into the ambiance are handcrafted pendant lamps and captivating murals adorning the space. The hand-painted murals by the talented artist Hannah Oceana elegantly frame the open kitchen and tasting bar, while a bamboo ceiling and artisanal wave-pattern pendant lighting add layers of texture and character to this dining space.

Construction has begun on 34 Paseo del Parque. Castillo Arquitectos designed this four-bedroom home, and general contractor RICSA will complete the project in seven months. Paseo del Parque is coming right along.

The final hardscape layer has made progress along Avenida de los Altos. Alfa Co. has finished hand-troweling the water channel. Directing rainwater, the water channel will become a rill every winter. It jogs across the road, helping with traffic calming.

December

In December, town has come alive with the enchanting glow of Christmas lights, festive decorations, and beautifully adorned trees that twinkle and spread holiday cheer throughout every corner.

Adding to the convenience of daily life, not one but two new ATMs have been installed, making financial transactions more accessible for everyone in town.

As a delightful surprise, the last few days of December brought unseasonably late rains, providing Guanacaste with a much-needed and refreshing rinse. These unexpected showers have added a touch of nature's rejuvenation to the year-end atmosphere, bringing a sense of renewal to the community.

Heading into 2024, Las Catalinas remains on course, steadfast in its commitment to advancing development plans while preserving 80% of the land as green space to safeguard local ecosystems.
