While some sunshine seekers might believe the best time to surf is in the dry season, from November to April, those in the know take advantage of green season surf conditions. Conditions are nothing short of amazing, and it’s got little to do with the rain.  The oncoming southwest swells are incredible and are responsible for delivering Guanacaste with reliable sets of four-foot or more swells and glassy conditions. Playa Grande is about thirty minutes from Las Catalinas and conditions are favorable for surfing this season.   Beginners will love [Tamarindo](https://theblog.lascatalinascr.com/exploring-beyond-las-catalinas-tamarindo), a forty-five-minute drive from [Las Catalinas](https://www.lascatalinascr.com/things-to-do%20https://www.lascatalinascr.com), widely regarded to be one of the best beginner surf spots in Costa Rica.
