Surf in the Green Season
Costa Rica stands out as a fantastic place for surfing, often ranking amongst the world’s top five surfing destinations, thanks to the consistent swells that grace the West Coast all year round.
While some sunshine seekers might believe the best time to surf is in the dry season, from November to April, those in the know take advantage of green season surf conditions. Conditions are nothing short of amazing, and it’s got little to do with the rain. The oncoming southwest swells are incredible and are responsible for delivering Guanacaste with reliable sets of four-foot or more swells and glassy conditions. Playa Grande is about thirty minutes from Las Catalinas and conditions are favorable for surfing this season.
Beginners will love Tamarindo, a forty-five-minute drive from Las Catalinas, widely regarded to be one of the best beginner surf spots in Costa Rica. It has lots of peaks and natural shelter from the strong southwest swells.
Don’t let a little rain slow you down there are plenty of things to do in Las Catalinas and Guanacaste this season.
