Children’s Day is a lesser-known celebration amidst the more familiar dates dedicated to parents. Since 1946, this special day has been marked on the ninth of September, and remarkably, Costa Rica was among the pioneers in establishing its observance. Costa Rica continues to actively embrace it to this day. Following Costa Rica's lead, the United Nations recommended that all nations allocate a day to honor and celebrate children.
Children's Day holds significant importance as it serves as a global reminder to champion the well-being of children. It prompts us to reflect on the Declaration of the Rights of the Child, ratified in 1959. This document outlines crucial principles for youth, including freedom from discrimination, the right to love and affection from their families, and the entitlement to a name and nationality, among others. It is a day to cherish the younger generations and unite families, but it is also a call to action for society to go to great lengths to protect and promote children's rights. Children’s Day reminds us to ensure that children not only survive but thrive. Kids should have the freedom to learn and grow, have their voices heard, and reach their fullest potential.
Tonight, you can join the fun at Las Catalinas in a Children's Day Celebration. Kids can enjoy making pizzas with a chef, while parents can craft cocktails with our mixologist in the Conservatory of the Santarena Hotel.
