Guanacaste’s Magical Transition into Green Season

Guanacaste seems to be fighting off the rainfalls this green season, and we have spent more days basking in the sunshine than taking cover under our umbrellas. Late July and early August we expect a couple of weeks of something called “veranillo” or little summer,  characterized by noticeably reduced rainfall. However, keep your umbrella at reach since Costa Rica is a tropical country after all, that means we can expect sudden rainfall at any time.

Generally, the mornings are bright, crisp, and sunny, perfect for outdoor activities. Afternoons often bring a sprinkling of rain for an hour or two, extending lunch slightly, since it’s a great time to have a coffee and watch the clouds roll by. The showers that we have received so far have already revitalized the surrounding tropical dry forest in the area with splendid shades of green.

Winds have been keeping things feeling cooler, although temperatures linger in the low 30s Celsius or 90s Fahrenheit. Bird migration patterns are more observable during the green season as well.

Overall, this is a time to enjoy and relax. We highly recommend you set time to enjoy the majestic sunsets of this season! Rainy afternoon only means more colors in the sky.
