Celebrating World Wildlife Day

Today, on World Wildlife Day, let's take a moment to celebrate and raise awareness for the incredible Fauna and Flora that surrounds us, starting right here in Las Catalinas.

On December 20, 2013, at the 68th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, March 3 was officially declared United Nations World Wildlife Day (WWD). This date holds special significance as it marks the signing of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) in 1973. The UNGA Resolution designated the CITES Secretariat as the facilitator for the global observance of this day, making UN World Wildlife Day an annual event dedicated to wildlife on the UN calendar.

Wildlife and biodiversity-based resources are essential for meeting a variety of human needs, including food, fuel, medicines, housing, and clothing. To ensure that future generations can continue to benefit from the beauty and benefits of nature, people worldwide have joined forces to safeguard ecosystems and protect plant and animal species.

As we mark this special day, let us celebrate wildlife and honor the vital conservation efforts underway across the globe.
