North America is brimming with anticipation for the celestial event of the decade—an awe-inspiring solar eclipse slated for April 8th, 2024. While Las Catalinas a may not lie directly in the path of totality, offering only a partial eclipse experience with approximately 12% of the moon veiling the sun, tomorrow’s spectacle promises to be nothing short of mesmerizing.
As the sun is gradually covered by the moon's shadow, observers become astronomers. Solar filters or pinhole cameras in hand allow you to witness the eclipse. For those lucky enough to be along the path of totality, about four fleeting minutes of daytime darkness await, accompanied by the ethereal glow of the sun's corona and the surreal phenomenon of sunrise in every direction.
The eclipse starts at 11:30 AM on Monday and reaches its peak at 12:24 PM. While this event will not be a full eclipse in Costa Rica, it is still worth a trip to the beach with your solar eclipse glasses for a safe and unforgettable viewing experience. The average person will only witness a total solar eclipse once every 375 years in their hometown, and as we eagerly anticipate Costa Rica's next brush with totality on November 14, 2031, the upcoming event will tie us over until we can catch a full eclipse.
