An official report from Costa Rica’s Ministry of Public Education (MEP) indicates that one hundred and fifteen primary and secondary educational centers in the cantons of the province of Guanacaste are part of an initiative to improve or construct new facilities. According to the MEP, the Nicoya Canton will see the most significant number of projects, totaling twenty-seven, closely followed by Las Catalinas’ canton, Santa Cruz, where twenty-six projects are planned. Also, many projects are scheduled in surrounding cantons, ensuring a widespread impact across Guanacaste. The financing for these projects was provided by the National Treasury, the Central American Bank for Economic Integration and the Inter-American Development Bank with some materials donated by the Municipality of Nicoya. These funds will benefit 1,054 educational centers across the country.
Costa Rica has established itself as a frontrunner in education across Latin America, thanks to its progressive and pioneering strategies. The nation's commitment to universal public education traces back to the late 19th century, with the introduction of free and compulsory primary education for children of all genders. Ensuring access to education became a cornerstone of the Costa Rican social fabric, remaining a steadfast priority for successive national administrations throughout the twentieth century. Strengthening the country’s educational system is vital for its future, economic growth, and social progress. Anticipation is high for these improvements to be made in the Guanacaste region.
