Today brings cooler temperatures in the mid 70s, misty air, a slightly heavier surf, and the continued rain that’s been a constant presence in town over the course of the past week. If you’ve stopped to wonder at some point during the past few days if this weather is normal in Guanacaste, it actually isn’t. Usual weather for this time of the year is sunny mornings, fresh air, and scattered showers across the afternoon, but we’ve seen a change.
Costa Rica is in the midst of two tropical waves, large zones of prolonged low pressure that bring with them a few days of extended low temperatures and significant rainfall. It’s rare that two hit so closely together, and the current tropical waves -- TW 40 and TW 41 -- have caused some widespread effects around the country. Here in Guanacaste some schools have closed down, and rivers and streams are at the highest they’ve been in a long time.
Still, it's an opportunity to enjoy the cooler weather throughout the day and appreciate the outdoors in a different way.
