A warm and sunny summer day out on Playa Danta, with a few more clouds than usual, perhaps remnants of the very rare end of January rain in the area. The pelícanos pardos (brown pelicans / Pelecanus occidentalis) are dotting this morning’s calm water, individuals intermittently taking off along the breaking waves before looping around for their arrow-straight dives to catch mullet, herring, and other baitfish. This many pelícanos out is usually a sign that there’s quite a lot of fish active in the area, which combined with the calm conditions in the bay and the rising tide means it’s a great time for a snorkel. A few people are already out, exploring the rock reef between Danta and Dantita.
