XTERRA Costa Rica Returns for Its Third Year in Las Catalinas

For the third consecutive year, XTERRA Costa Rica is returning to Las Catalinas, bringing three days of sport, community, and outdoor adventure to Town from August 21 to 23, 2026.

This year’s event will once again gather athletes across several race categories, including the full distance triathlon, sprint triathlon, triathlon relay, open water swim, trail running, and kids run. The 2026 edition also brings added recognition to the trail running portion of the weekend, as the full and half marathons will serve as the XTERRA Americas Trail Run Championship. The event also includes 56 World Championship slots and a $7,500 Elite Tri prize purse.

One of the things that makes XTERRA Costa Rica in Las Catalinas different from many other XTERRA destinations around the world is the setting itself. Las Catalinas is not only a race location, but a Town with residences, lodging, restaurants, trails, plazas, beaches, and daily life all within walking distance. For athletes, this makes the experience especially convenient. They can stay in Town, get familiar with the route, train before race day, and move easily between the beach, trails, and race activities. For friends, family, and supporters, it also means being close to the action while still enjoying everything Town has to offer.

As in previous years, the event is not only about using the natural advantages of the location, from the calm waters of Playa Danta to the purpose built mountain bike trails that move through the forest and above the Pacific. XTERRA Costa Rica also continues to include initiatives that contribute positively to the surrounding ecosystem, including a tree planting campaign during the event weekend.

More details will be shared as the dates get closer. For now, those who have been waiting for this event and preparing for the challenge can already learn more through the official XTERRA Costa Rica event page or register through XTERRA Costa Rica’s registration link.

And even if this is not your year to race, it is still worth being here. During XTERRA weekend, Town becomes especially active, full of movement, sport, visitors, residents, athletes, families, and contagious energy. Come support the competitors, enjoy the atmosphere, and who knows, maybe this is the year that inspires you to take on a new challenge next time.
