What to Expect on the Weather This Week

The week begins with a subtle change in the air. Mornings may feel a little breezier, trees moving a bit more than usual, and that familiar sound of wind weaving through the streets and terraces in Town. While temperatures remain within the expected range for February, the way the days feel is likely to shift as wind and humidity take turns shaping the rhythm of the week.

According to the Instituto Meteorológico Nacional, a cold surge will move through the region without directly entering Costa Rica, but it is expected to strengthen the trade winds between Tuesday and Thursday. Gusts could reach up to 50 km per hour (approximately 31 miles per hour). At that speed, branches sway with intention, light dust can lift, and doors or windows may vibrate slightly. It is not unusual for this time of year, but it is noticeable.

Town Feb 26

If conditions develop as projected, we can expect breezier mornings and a steady movement in the air during the first half of the week. While temperatures in the Pacific North are forecast to reach highs of 36°C (about 97°F) and lows near 20°C (68°F), the stronger breeze may soften how intense the heat feels, especially in the earlier hours of the day.

By Friday, humidity is expected to gradually increase, while winds may begin to ease into Saturday and Sunday. With less airflow and more moisture in the atmosphere, the weekend could feel warmer and heavier compared to the first half of the week. Even if the thermometer shows similar numbers, the real feel of the temperature may rise as the air becomes calmer.

Town Feb 26-3

In many ways, this is part of the dry season’s natural progression. As the sun grows stronger, wind and humidity begin to define how hot the days truly feel in Town. Fortunately, the ocean remains just across Town, and whether the air feels fresh and moving or warm and still, Playa Danta and Playa Dantita are always close for a refreshing swim.
