As we head into the week of September 7–13, the weather around Las Catalinas may bring an interesting mix of September conditions: a chance of rain, but an overall drier-than-usual outlook for this time of year.
According to Costa Rica’s National Meteorological Institute (IMN), the beginning of the week could bring partly cloudy skies and some wind during the mornings, followed by possible afternoon showers and thunderstorms along the Pacific coast, including Guanacaste. Tropical Wave #41 is also expected to pass through the country early in the week, although the IMN currently indicates that it does not show significant development.
Looking at the week as a whole, however, the IMN’s sub-seasonal forecast expects drier conditions across the Pacific from September 8–13, including the North Pacific. This does not necessarily mean a rain-free week. Rather, rainfall totals are expected to remain below what is typical for September, a month that normally falls within Costa Rica’s green season. For the North Pacific, the IMN currently estimates weekly rainfall accumulations between 5 and 90 mm.
So, if you are making plans around Town this week, expect a little bit of both: partly cloudy mornings, the possibility of refreshing afternoon rain, and overall less rainfall than we would normally expect at this point in September.
