Celebrating the International Day of Happiness

Las Catalinas invites community members to join in celebrating the International Day of Happiness today. While it is a day to be happy, of course, it is also a moment to remember that happiness is a fundamental human goal. The UN declared March 20th World Happiness Day in 2012 to advocate for governments and international organizations to invest in conditions that support happiness by upholding human rights and incorporating well-being and environmental dimensions into policy frameworks.

The United Nations General Assembly recognizes this goal and calls for “a more inclusive, equitable, and balanced approach to economic growth that promotes the happiness and well-being of all peoples.” The effectiveness of governments in upholding peace and social order, as well as in the fields of taxation, legal institutions, and delivery of public services, strongly correlates with average life satisfaction.

As we celebrate World Happiness Day, take a moment to reflect on experiencing Costa Rica's sense of freedom and tranquility. Costa Rica, particularly the Nicoya Peninsula in Guanacaste, embodies the concept of living life to its fullest, even earning the title of a "Blue Zone." Las Catalinas, thanks to its meticulous planning and town culture, encapsulates the essence of well-living. We live happier, as these guiding principles shape the daily lives of its residents, promoting a harmonious balance of health, happiness, and fulfillment.
