The Guanacaste Airport, the closest airport to Las Catalinas, recently shattered records for tourists passing through in a single day. This remarkable surge in visitors marks a big milestone for Costa Rica. On Saturday, March 30, 11,603 people entered and exited the country through Guanacaste Airport, with nine domestic and thirty-seven international flights facilitating the influx of passengers.
March proved to be the month with the highest visitation, with a staggering 250,932 passengers. This represents a 36% increase compared to March 2023, which held the previous record for the highest passenger traffic to the airport. The first three months of the year have set an overall record for tourist visits in the country through Liberia’s Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport. During the first quarter of 2024, an impressive total of 687,167 passengers traveled through the airport, including arrivals and departures from both international and domestic flights. This underscores the growing popularity of Costa Rica as a tourist destination and bodes well for the continued success of the tourism industry in the region.
Key markets visiting this quarter include Toronto, Los Angeles, and Atlanta. As a gateway to Las Catalinas, the Guanacaste Airport plays a pivotal role in facilitating travel and welcoming visitors to our part of the world. When planning your visit to Las Catalinas, we recommend adding a little extra time to get through immigration, and pre-coordinating your transportation to town, especially during high season, from December to April.
