August is already bringing plenty of opportunities to spend time together in Town, and this week, Central Park will become the setting for one more. Beginning on August 7, the “Unidos por el Deporte” soccer tournament, or “United Through Sport” in English, will bring together employees from different Las Catalinas departments, alongside colleagues from businesses and partners in Town, for a month of friendly competition, teamwork and community.
Organized by the People, Culture & Talent team, the tournament was created as an opportunity to strengthen relationships, encourage collaboration and promote healthy lifestyles through sports. Throughout the month, six teams representing different Las Catalinas departments, as well as businesses and partners in Town, will compete for a place in the championship match.
Among them are two of the construction companies currently working in El Prado, Alfa and RICSA, along with several creative team names inspired by the people behind them. Cabo Verde pays tribute to the country whose inspiring performance captured the world's attention during the last FIFA World Cup, while Papamaki brings together players from both Papagayo and Tamaki. The remaining teams, FC Garden, GS Team, Las Catalinas FC and Santarena FC, will face off throughout the tournament on the soccer field in Central Park, all with the same goal of earning a spot in the final.
The first match will take place tomorrow, Friday, August 7, at 2:00 p.m., with the tournament continuing on Saturday at the same time. The next rounds will be played on August 10 and 12,, leading up to the championship match on Wednesday, August 19 at 2:00 pm. The final will arrive just ahead of the excitement surrounding XTERRA the following weekend, making it a fitting start to an especially active stretch of sports in Town.
