Two New Tapirs by Playa Danta

We’re happy to share that yesterday two new tapirs were installed near Playa Danta.

With these, there are now six tapirs throughout Town, sculptures that celebrate the heart of our community, the ocean, our gathering places, and the nature that surrounds us. These sculptures are also benches, inviting everyone to pause, sit, and enjoy a quiet moment of contemplation.

These two, in particular, rest between Celeste and Playa Danta, a perfect nod to their name and setting. As we shared in a previous edition of The Daily, there’s no formal historical record explaining why Playa Danta was named after the tapir. Still, the ecological connection between the beach’s surrounding ecosystem and the largest land mammal in Costa Rica is unmistakable.

This installation marks a new spot to sit, a rememberance of the beach that embraces Town, and a new place to admire the view, and enjoy the beauty of the beach.

Next time you’re at Playa Danta, see if you can find the two tapirs resting right outside the shore, gazing back at you, inviting you to slow down and enjoy the moment.
