The Trails After the First Rains

With the arrival of the first rains, the trails around Las Catalinas are beginning to change.

Just a month ago, the surrounding hillsides were still carrying the look of the dry season. The landscape was golden, the trees were bare in certain areas, and the sun moved across the trails with very little shade. Now, after the first weeks of rain, small signs of transformation are starting to appear. One of our residents recently shared a beautiful picture of a Malinche tree in full bloom, a visual sign of the changing season and of the green slowly returning to the landscape.

For many people in Town, this is an exciting shift. More green means more shade along the trails, a welcome change for runners, hikers, and mountain bikers who spend time outdoors throughout the year. The rain also brings a new texture to the terrain. After a good shower, the soil can feel firmer underfoot and under tire, adding just enough grip and a bit of muddy adventure for those who enjoy riding through the changing conditions.

Of course, the rainy season also asks for a little more flexibility. Outdoor activities may need to shift depending on the forecast, and timing becomes part of the experience. Early mornings, post rain afternoons, or moments when the ground has had time to settle can all offer different ways to enjoy the trail system.

But with that flexibility comes a reward. The air feels fresher at certain hours of the day, the forest begins to wake up, and the trails take on a different kind of energy. It is one of the many ways this season changes life in Town, inviting everyone to notice the landscape as it transforms week by week.
