As you may know, Central Park has now been completed and officially inaugurated for the community. But today, we’d like to pause and honor the people who made this dream a reality.
We asked Carolina Herrera and Karina Líos a few questions about their experience bringing the park to life, and their reflections offer a glimpse into the care, effort, and passion behind the project.
Carolina Herrera, Project Manager from the Construction Department, led the park’s infrastructure execution from start to finish. She also took the time to complete a detailed punchlist with Florem to ensure every aspect was in the best possible condition during the official handover of Central Park to the administration. You can see her in action during this process in the picture below. Karina Líos, our Coordinator and Special Programs Manager, brought the landscape to life, overseeing every detail of planting and garden installation across the park.

For Carolina, the sheer scale of the space combined with a tight timeline and shifting weather and logistics made it one of the most demanding projects she has worked on. Even so, seeing children and families enjoying a space designed for connection, play, and balance made it all worthwhile. She says she is most proud of the final result and the teamwork that made it possible, and shared a heartfelt thank you to the companies who participated in this team effort, as well as the gardening and Agroforestry teams of Las Catalinas, whose dedication and work under the sun made all the difference.

Karina reflected on similar challenges. Harsh weather, complex soils, and unpredictable terrain pushed the team to adapt constantly. But those same conditions made the transformation even more meaningful. Walking through the trails today, surrounded by greenery and the sounds of people enjoying the space, she says, is something hard to put into words. Over 170 trees and more than 4,600 shrubs and groundcovers were planted in the first phase, and behind every plant is a story, a person, and a purpose.
There’s one more detail you may not know. The two elegant palm trees in front of the tennis courts were a personal gift from Karina to Town. She nurtured them for 18 years, and they represent her two daughters. Today, they add beauty to the space and are a quiet reminder of the love and meaning planted throughout the park. You can see Karina with the two palm trees in the picture below.

Karina expressed deep gratitude to those who believed in their vision, especially the Las Catalinas teams, as well as everyone who contributed in one way or another to make this project a reality. “This was not just planting,” she said. “It was about bringing life into a place and creating spaces for people to reconnect with nature.”

Central Park stands today as a reflection of that vision, shaped by the care, talent, and perseverance of the people behind it. We are especially grateful to Carolina and Karina for their heartfelt effort and dedication, which made it possible for all of us to enjoy what Central Park is today.
