The Open Water Relay Returns for Its Second Edition

On August 19, Las Catalinas celebrated the second edition of the Las Catalinas to Las Catalinas Open Water Relay, an event founded and organized by Doug Goulden, one of Town’s longest-standing owners and a passionate member of the community.

Just like its first edition, the relay took place the weekend before XTERRA, adding another memorable sporting moment to an already exciting time of year in Town. The afternoon before the swim, participants gathered to review the route, safety protocols, and security measures, making sure everyone was prepared for the challenge ahead.

By the following day, 12 brave Las Catalinas residents were ready to take on the open water, joining the relay from the Las Catalinas Islands all the way back to Las Catalinas Town.

It was an impressive athletic feat, but also a beautiful example of the role that both sport and community play in life at Las Catalinas. Beyond the distance covered in the water, the event brought neighbors together around a shared challenge, with plenty of encouragement, teamwork, and excitement along the way.

Congratulations to all the swimmers who volunteered to be part of this second edition, as well as everyone who helped make the event possible and supported the participants along the way.

After two editions, this community-born tradition already feels like one worth looking forward to. We can’t wait to see what the third Las Catalinas to Las Catalinas Open Water Relay brings next year.
