A day of strong sun throughout the day today, with temperatures in the low 80s and humidity again middling around 74%. Some stronger winds as well today, coming from the northeast today and averaging around 15mph with gusts picking up to the low twenties. Out in the cove the offshore winds should keep the surf relatively small today, averaging between 1 and 2 feet, but wave action will be comparatively fast, with a wave about once every 7.2 seconds. On the trails, the breeze will help balance the heat, especially on the north side of the ridge, which should make an evening ride an excellent option today.

This week, town is preparing for an adventurous weekend as we welcome two major events to town: the Paddle Battle and the Intrepid Challenge.

On Saturday, the Paddle Battle welcomes the top racers from around Costa Rica to compete in the final race of the Costa Rican circuit, the Costa Rican National Championship. With over 1000$ in prize money up for grabs, as well as the final spot on the Costa Rican National team on the line, the Elite Division should be a hotly contested race. For less experienced paddlers, there is an amateur race and a children's race taking place as well, which offer shorter course, but should still be an intense competition.

Following the two singles races on Saturday is the Dragon SUP race, a head to head 4v4 Dragon SUP competition that promises to entertain. The Dragon SUP race will follow a number of smaller races in knockout tournament style, and there is talk of an appearance from some of the top Dragon SUPers in Central America, the Panamanian National Team.

The next day, town hosts the Intrepid Challenge, a large scale obstacle course race taking place all over town's beaches and trails. Measuring 5k+ and 11k+ over the Challenge's two separate distances, and featuring 20 and 40 obstacles respectively, competitors can expect to run, climb, jump, crawl, swim, paddle, row, aim, carry, lift, balance and scramble as they make their way to the end of the race.

The Challenge starts with the Thrill race, an event targeted for competitors of all different levels of fitness. The Thrill takes place over the shorter, easier course and serves as a qualification heat for the Challenge's main Event, the Daredevil. Only the top 20% of finishers from every Thrill race qualify to compete in the Daredevil, which ratchets up distance, time, and difficulty for a truly demanding race that has never been finished in less than 2 hours.

It'll definitely be a lively weekend in town, and sign ups for both events are still available for anyone feeling a little bit adventurous or competitive. Check our Events Page for more information.
