Temporary Suspension of Operations at Liberia International Airport

Liberia International Airport has temporarily suspended operations starting Friday, November 15, 2024, due to significant runway damage caused by delays in repairs and recent heavy rains. The closure affects 36 international flights and approximately 4,700 passengers traveling to or from cities in the U.S. and Canada.

Guanacaste Aeropuerto urged passengers to avoid traveling to the terminal and to coordinate with their airlines for alternative arrangements. Officials emphasized that the runway damage poses a national safety concern, making flight operations impossible until repairs are completed.

Flights at Juan SantamarĂa International Airport in Alajuela remain unaffected and operational. Travelers are advised to stay updated with their airlines and airport authorities for the latest developments.
