Happy Easter from las Catalinas

Semana Santa is not over yet in Las Catalinas. Sunday means many will still be enjoying quality time with family on the beaches before the region calms down on Monday. Easter, also called Pascha or Resurrection Sunday, is a Christian festival and cultural holiday commemorating the resurrection of Jesus from the dead, described in the New Testament as having occurred on the third day of his burial following his crucifixion by the Romans at Calvary c. 30 AD. While there are many traditions for this holiday season, such as painting and hiding easter eggs, one of the most popular universal traditions is sharing a meal with friends and family.

During Holy Week, Costa Rican tables showcase traditional dishes that are indispensable during this time. Explore traditional Costa Rican recipes for your Easter spread by downloading the Minister of Culture’s digital recipe books. We suggest trying chiverre honey turnovers, known as “empanadas de chiverre”, tamales mudos, and seafood rice, or “arroz con mariscos”. Access the free downloadable recipe books here to get started on your culinary adventure, which will also be an exercise in Spanish.

For those not cooking during these dates, celebrate Easter in town today with a special Easter brunch in both Ponciano and in Celeste.

Las Catalinas extends warm wishes to you and your loved ones for a joyous Easter season.
