Last Friday, one of our team members at DCL reported the presence of a disoriented and weak ocelot near his home in Villagio. Despite the challenges posed by the rain, the Agroforestales Team managed to safely capture the animal and care for it until MINAE personnel arrived on Saturday to transport it to the Las Pumas Rescue Center in CaƱas.
According to MINAE, the ocelot is an elderly adult female showing significant signs of aging, including worn teeth, a damaged eye, and an injury to one of her hind legs. She is now receiving treatment and fluids at the rescue center, with hopes that she can improve her quality of life and enjoy comfort in her final days.
This incident highlights the importance of collaboration between our community and local authorities in protecting and caring for the wildlife that shares this environment with us. Thank you to everyone involved for your dedication to nature!
