Presidential Election Results: Costa Rica’s New President Elect

On February 1, starting at 8:45 p.m., Costa Rica’s Tribunal Supremo de Elecciones began releasing official results as vote counts from polling stations across the country were progressively tallied.

By majority vote, Laura Fernández, the ruling party’s candidate and political heir to the current administration, was elected president. The Pueblo Soberano party secured the highest number of votes nationwide.

As Costa Rica enters the 2026–2030 electoral period, we wish the country well, with the hope that dialogue, democratic respect, and peaceful coexistence remain central pillars of national life.
