Pintacafé Opens in Town Bringing Creativity and Coffee to Las Catalinas

Earlier this month, Pintacafé officially opened its doors in Town, bringing with it color, creativity, and a new way to slow down in Las Catalinas.

The studio is open Monday through Sunday from 10 am to 7 pm. They are located on the first floor of Building 39 at La Rambla, in a space with large windows that face Main Street, welcoming both residents and visitors throughout the week.

Inside, Pintacafé offers a paint your own pottery experience combined with a cozy café setting, where guests choose a ceramic piece, sit down with a brush, and let time move a little more gently. The pieces range from around 10 to 15 dollars for the most accessible options, up to 50 dollars for larger or more detailed designs, and every price includes the paints and all necessary materials. At the end, a sealant is applied, the piece dries naturally in about five to ten minutes, and it is ready to go home with you. It is beautifully simple and designed for all ages, whether you come with family, friends, or decide to enjoy a quiet creative moment on your own.

Alongside the ceramics, they offer coffee, fresh juices, smoothies, matcha, golden lattes, and both sweet and savory pastries, making it easy to turn an hour of painting into a full, relaxed afternoon. The space itself is filled with natural light, with plenty of tables and chairs to welcome everyone. Located just minutes from the beach and steps from Central Park, it feels bright, open, and inviting.

Behind Pintacafé is a story that feels just as warm as the space. The founders are a Colombian couple who reconnected during the pandemic. After finding each other again in Colombia, they chose to marry in Costa Rica and begin a new chapter here. Inspired by their daughter’s love for painting ceramic pieces, they decided to dream boldly and opened their first Pintacafé three years ago in Barrio Escalante, San José. A year ago, in January 2025, they opened their second location in Heredia. And now, just one year later, they have inaugurated their third location here in Las Catalinas.

They had never visited Las Catalinas before this opportunity arose, but when they came, they were captivated. They saw a project with a strong future and felt ready to take the leap. As they shared, if it was not going to be them opening this space, it would be someone else. Today, their family business includes the husband, the wife, their daughter, and a team of 14 people across their three locations.  Many of their loyal followers from the Greater Metropolitan Area of San José have traveled from places like San Carlos, Alajuela, and Nicoya to visit them, and here in Town they have already seen a beautiful response, especially on weekends when the studio has even filled to capacity.

We are grateful to welcome Pintacafé and the family and hearts behind it. It is a space created to gather, to disconnect from routine, to enjoy something delicious, and to let creativity lead the way. We wish them the very best in this new chapter in Town.
