Las Catalinas has been supporting the Police Athletic League (PAL) through Catalinas Security Services and Las Catalinas' Community Outreach Department since October 2025, contributing to a program that has been active across Costa Rica for years and began in the Brasilito area in July of last year.
PAL is a youth program led by Costa Rica’s Fuerza Pública and supported by partners such as the U.S. Embassy in Costa Rica, ICODER, IMAS, and others. Each week, more than 65 children and young people from Brasilito, Flamingo, and Potrero come together to learn, play, and grow.
Through mentorship, the program focuses on values such as respect, empathy, and resilience, while encouraging participation in sports like soccer, running, and swimming. These weekly gatherings, held every Sunday, also include a shared meal, creating a space where discipline, teamwork, and confidence are built over time.
Beyond their regular meetings at La Paz, the group has visited Las Catalinas twice and has another visit planned for the end of April. Participants are also taken to museums and beaches, where they learn about the environment, take part in beach cleanups, and develop a sense of responsibility toward the places they inhabit.

The involvement of the Las Catalinas community has played a meaningful role in supporting this initiative. During last year’s Homeowners Weekend, Adrian Hunt, now a mentor within the program, organized a fundraiser where 27 Las Catalinas families and 10 supporters from the surrounding community came together to raise more than $14,000. These contributions have helped cover the costs of weekly activities, outings, and celebrations, as well as essential equipment for the program. One family also organized the donation of 70 pairs of soccer shoes and swimming gear, making it possible for many participants to take part in these activities.

Over time, the program has already shown a positive impact on the lives of these young participants and their families, offering guidance, support, and opportunities for personal development. Many have grown in confidence, leadership, and even begun participating more actively in sports.

This information comes from the PAL (Police Athletic League) newsletter, which also outlines ways to get involved, support, or contribute to the program.
Las Catalinas is part of a broader community, and initiatives like PAL reflect that. They remind us that beyond enjoying this place, there is also an opportunity to contribute in meaningful ways and make a positive impact in the lives of others.
