Spotted: White-Tailed Deer on the Trails of Las Catalinas

A Las Catalinas homeowner came across a white-tailed deer and its fawn while exploring a bike trail just a couple of days ago. Watch the video footage captured below:

The white-tailed deer, also known as Odocoileus virginianus, is a medium-sized, slender deer with long legs. Its brown coat is broken up with a distinctive white tail and underbody. Indigenous to North, Central, and South America. Once a common sighting on the savannas of Guanacaste, such as the tropical dry forest trails in Las Catalinas, these deer have found their way to the endangered species list due to factors like hunting and habitat loss. Despite challenges, these deer are remarkably adaptable,  found at sea level or on the slopes of mountains. Costa Rica declared the White-tailed deer as its national animal on May 2, 1995.
