La Estancia’s beautiful horses are more than just companions for a ride; they each have their own unique personality and story. Meet our beloved herd:

  1. Mari (Mariposita) – Small and sweet, Mari loves snuggles and avoids conflict. She’s incredibly gentle, especially with kids. Although she used to be picked on by the other horses, she now lives happily with the goats in the pasture. She’s a perfect little friend from Tempate.

  2. India – The most reliable horse for new riders, India is strong and calm. With her half-Appaloosa heritage, she’s from Quebrada Honda and is known for her trustworthy, relaxed demeanor, making her a favorite for those learning to ride.

  3. Lucero – Smart and versatile, Lucero loves topes (Costa Rican horse parades). He’s jealous of India but extremely reliable and energetic. Coming from Arado de Santa Cruz, Lucero is one of the best horses around, despite his spirited nature.

  4. Juancho – One of the youngest in the herd, Juancho loves the beach. He was rebellious as a teenager but has since been tamed, making him ideal for new or intermediate riders. His mellow and sweet personality is irresistible.

  5. Palomo – A high-energy workhorse from Finca La Ceiba, Palomo is accustomed to cattle work and even knows the high step. He’s best suited for experienced riders or guides due to his energetic and dynamic personality.

  6. Canela – Canela has a big personality and prefers to stick with the guides. She’s older and more reserved, likely due to a difficult past, but her strength and experience make her a trusted partner on the trail. She hails from Belén.

  7. Cangrejo – Solid, energetic, and responsive, Cangrejo is perfect for intermediate riders. He’s not too fussy but has the energy to make each ride fun. He comes from Santa Cruz and is known for his middle-of-the-pack steadiness.

  8. Luna – The eldest horse in our herd, Luna, from Santa Cruz, is half-Spanish and likes to fancy herself the prettiest. She loves to prance and enjoys dancing to music, especially at topes. She’s perfect for intermediate or younger riders.

  9. Jalapeño – From Liberia, Jalapeño is a fan favorite due to his snuggly, playful nature. He loves scratches and is a strong, athletic horse. For intermediate riders, he’s a joy to ride but can be a handful—especially if you let him run!

Each of these horses brings something special to La Estancia, and we can’t wait for you to meet them. Whether you’re a new rider or an experienced one, there’s a perfect horse here waiting to join you on your next adventure!
