Ligas Atléticas Policiales in Town: Inspiring the Next Generation

This coming October 25th, Las Catalinas will not only host its annual Halloween Party starting at 4:00 pm, but also a series of morning activities aimed at giving back to the community.
About four weeks ago, Las Catalinas Doorway, together with the Outreach Program and Catalinas Security Services, partnered with Ligas Atléticas Policiales (Police Athletic Leagues) to bring 65 kids from Brasilito, Potrero, and Flamingo to spend a day in Town. The program, led by Costa Rica’s Fuerza Pública, is supported by the INL Office of the U.S., the U.S. Embassy, ICODER, IMAS, and several other public and private partners. Its goal is to support youth in vulnerable communities and prevent their involvement in gangs and crime through sports, life skills, and mentorship. Every week, participants meet for six hours to play, learn, and grow.

This Saturday, October 25th, the program will return to Las Catalinas, this time organized by Adrian Hunt, a homeowner who felt deeply moved by the initiative when he first learned about it in September back when they first came to Las Catalinas. Since then, he has become a volunteer mentor and has coordinated a new set of activities for the upcoming event.

With the support of the Las Catalinas Outreach Program, Catalinas Security Services, Fuerza Publica and its police and coach Eber Cordero for the Brasilito, Flamingo and Potrero area, along with sponsors such as Pura Vida Ride, Celeste, and other local businesses, the kids will spend the day in Town from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm. They’ll enjoy sports like soccer and volleyball, receive lunch, and take home a Halloween treat bag to end the day.

There are two main ways to participate and help make a positive impact to these kids even if you're not directly involved in the Program itself. At 10:30 am, everyone is welcome to join a Beach Clean-Up at Playa Danta. You can also donate in person, either in cash or by learning how to do so via Venmo, Zelle, or local bank transfer at the fundraising table outside Pura Vida Ride between 8:00 am and 2:00 pm.

Adrian shared: “All donations will go directly to this event and to support the program long-term, as well as any needs within our broader community outside of Las Catalinas

Together, we can continue to strengthen the bond between our community and the next generation of leaders. Everyone is invited to join, contribute, and help this meaningful initiative continue to grow and become a sustained, long-term effort.
