The La Amistad Bridge over the Tempisque River has reopened after three months of extensive rehabilitation work, coinciding with the 200th anniversary of Nicoya's annexation to Costa Rica.
The 780-meter-long structure, which is crucial for connecting Guanacaste with the rest of the country, underwent specialized enhancements to ensure its durability and safety.
The rehabilitation involved lifting the bridge by 2 cm to replace damaged supports, installing new ones to enhance its seismic resilience, and updating the structure with new expansion joints. Additional improvements included installing new lighting, resurfacing the road, and marking it with thermoplastic paint.
With the La Amistad Bridge back in operation we can expect a smoother transit to and from Guanacaste.
