Howler Monkeys Visit in Celeste

Written by Fiorella Vargas | Dec 3, 2025 10:59:59 PM

This morning Celeste woke up to a lovely surprise. Around five howler monkeys were moving through the tree canopy above the outdoor seating that looks out to the sea and they stayed there throughout the day.

Even though howler monkeys are present year round in Guanacaste, their visibility changes throughout the seasons. In a past October edition of The Daily we reported hearing them and shared that during the rainy months they are more noticeable because it is their mating season, which makes their calls hard to miss. But since then, we had not seen or heard them much again in Town.

Today we had the good fortune not only to hear them but also to see them clearly. There were around three or four larger monkeys and a very small one that Celeste’s staff mentioned looked like a newborn due to its tiny size. A moment of wildlife wonder to spend the day in Town.
