Every May 1, Costa Rica celebrates Labor Day, a moment to recognize the people whose daily work, commitment, and presence help shape the places we live, visit, and care for.
This year, the date carries a special meaning for Las Catalinas as we take a moment to honor Gerardo Hernández, one of the longest standing members of our team, who retired on April 26 after 15 years of work with the company.
Gerardo celebrated his 15 year anniversary on March 23, marking a long chapter of dedication, responsibility, and service. Throughout those years, he became known not only as an excellent worker, but as a respectful, collaborative, and kind person who was always willing to support others. Those qualities are deeply valued, and they are also the kind of qualities that stay in people’s memories.

His presence was felt among his teammates, with whom he shared many years of work, conversations, and everyday moments. He got along well with those around him and leaves behind the example of someone who showed up with consistency, care, and a good attitude.
Wilfredo Arguedas, one of his supervisors, shared a few words in recognition of Gerardo’s time with the company:
“These 15 years were an example to follow and a reflection of his commitment. They make me reflect and carry with me a lesson from his responsibility and the way he treated others.”
Before his retirement, Gerardo took one last picture with members of the team, a small but meaningful moment to close this chapter surrounded by some of the people who worked alongside him.

On this Labor Day, we thank Gerardo Hernández for his many years of dedication to Las Catalinas. We are grateful for his work, his kindness, and the example he leaves with the team. We wish him all the very best in this new stage of life.
