From Patience to Harvest: La Estancia’s First Pineapples

Last week was especially lively at La Estancia, with many things happening at once. But among all of them, there was one moment that felt particularly exciting: our very first pineapple harvest.

There were around eight pineapple plants, and it took up to 18 months for them to produce their first fruit, known as a ratoon. It’s a slow process, one that requires patience, which made finally seeing them ready feel even more special.

As the pineapples developed, some were carefully covered with sacks to protect them from birds, while others that had already been nibbled were harvested. A small but very real sign that this experiment was working.

This plantation is part of an ongoing trial at La Estancia to understand whether growing pineapples here is possible. Now that it has proven successful, the next step is to begin expanding production at a small scale and, eventually, share them with Town’s commercial spaces.

This effort is part of a broader vision for La Estancia to provide some of the products used by businesses in Town. After this first harvest, future cycles will take less time, which makes this initial success feel even more promising.

There’s something rewarding about seeing this kind of effort come to life, especially knowing how long it took to get here. And now that it has, it opens the door to imagining what else La Estancia might be able to grow and share in the near future.

We hope you get to be here to witness it, and hopefully, to taste it.
