Paying Tribute to Guanacaste's Inspirational Women on International Women's Day

Today, in honor of International Women’s Day, we share an event supporting the advancement of gender equality in the Guanacaste region. The Chorotega regional headquarters of the Universidad Nacional, about one hour from Las Catalinas, is hosting a ceremony to honor the accomplishments of remarkable women in the Guanacaste region.

Yorleny Espinoza, an academic at the UNA Regional Headquarters of Chorotega and an active member of the Equity and Gender Equality Policy Network of the Universidad Nacional, sheds light on the event's dynamic titled "Yo Impacto, Déjenme Contarles Cómo," or "I Impact, Let me Tell You How." "It's crucial for women to articulate how they're influencing their surroundings," Yorleny emphasizes. "Their voices must resonate within the community to truly acknowledge the significance of their contributions."

The eight featured women are; Ingrid Paniagua Guevara, academic and student coordinator at the Universidad Nacional Chorotega, Andrea Suárez, academic, researcher, and director of the Hydrological Resources Center for Central America and the Caribbean (HIDROCEC) of the Universidad Nacional Chortega, Silvia Zúñiga, academic, researcher, and director of the Mesoamerican Center for Sustainable Development of the Dry Tropics (CEMEDE) of the Universidad Nacional Chortega, Patricia Ruiz Cambronero, president of the Nicoyan Association of People with Disabilities (ASONIPED), recognized for her work in raising awareness and inclusion of people with disabilities in the province, Leslie Marchena Sequeira, social and cultural manager of the Municipality of Nicoya; Daisy Barrantes Zamora, gastronomic instructor, entrepreneur, and Chef of CanelAzul Cafeteria and Restaurant, recognized for her innovation in creating healthy menu proposals, Cristina E. Díaz, Civic Center Without Walls collaborator, project manager, and photographer, and Alejandra Orozco Díaz, sociologist, director, and producer of the PRODANZZE CR Academy. These prominent figures are doing great things for the region.

Residents of Las Catalinas and members of the wider community are invited to attend this afternoon at 1:30 P.M. at the Tempisque Auditorium on the Nicoya campus of the Universidad Nacional. This meaningful observance of International Women's Day brings the region together to honor and celebrate the remarkable achievements of women who positively influence Guanacaste.  The event is a pivotal part of a broader initiative dedicated to progressing equality and equity in our society.
