Last Friday, the day before Halloween, Elif’s kids put on their costumes and set out on a trick-or-treat route through Town.
Holidays in Las Catalinas are usually community affairs, planned and looked forward to for weeks. Elif’s children, though, tend to celebrate during school hours, which gives them a morning in Town that belongs entirely to them. This year was no different.

They made their way along the pathways and between the houses, stopping by different Las Catalinas offices, where candy was waiting. Very little work got done while a small parade of a mini Spider-Man, a cow, a princess, a dinosaur and even a whale out of the water, along with many little friends, knocked on doors.

Las Catalinas was designed as a car-free town, a place where children can roam freely and safely. Most days, that idea lives in the streets almost unnoticed. This past Friday morning, it was easy to see as Elif’s students and their teachers walked, carefree, through many corners of Town.
