Wednesday, November 28th, 2018.

Some cloud cover today, with temperatures starting in the high 70s, rising to the mid 80s and hanging around 84 throughout the day. Humidity will be steady at 65%, with winds starting from the northeast and shifting to the east as the sun sets, maintaining a consistent breeze around 5mph. The tide will be going out throughout the day, meaning early morning and late evening will be great times to head out for a paddle board or a swim, and the waves should be mellow, around 1.5ft tall at their highest.

With the arrival of the Christmas season, there's a very special type of decoration going up across Las Catalinas and the surrounding towns -- CEPIA's Driftwood Christmas Trees. Created out of a partnership between local businesses and CEPIA (the association of Culture, Education, and Psychology for Infants and Adolescents), the Driftwood Christmas Trees are an opportunity to give back to the community in the form of Christmas gifts for less fortunate children in Guanacaste. The trees are decorated with cards from Guanacaste children and their Christmas wish lists, which can be purchased and returned to the trees by December 9, or purchased automatically by the CEPIA team with a donation of 15,000 colones (around 25$) by the same date.

It's a powerful opportunity to create a truly special Christmas for someone less fortunate, and a very near and dear initiative to not only people in Las Catalinas but also to those in the surrounding towns as well. If you're interested in taking part, make a trip to Casa Chameleon, Central (upcoming), Pura Vida Ride, or one of the many different vendors listed on CEPIA's Facebook page.

For more information about CEPIA and the other charitable projects going on in the area, take a look at the Guanacaste Community Fund website. The Guanacaste Community Fund (GCF) is a longtime partner of Las Catalinas and aims to support cooperation between the local grassroots organizations and the international community in order to promote sustainable development in Guanacaste.
