In this Daily -- the Festival de la Luz in Potrero
Another warm day today, with a crystal clear sky throughout the day and a steady wind coming from the northeast throughout. Temperatures should start in the high 70s, before peaking in the high 80s in the middle of the day, and falling off quickly with low moisture in the air moving on towards sunset. The swell should be relatively low today, averaging a bit over 1ft with relatively frequent wave action throughout the day, helped in part by the constant offshore wind.
This Saturday was the Festival de la Luz in San Jose, a huge parade that takes every year during the Christmas season. Much like Mardi Gras in the United States and Carnival in Brazil, the Festival de la Luz features massive floats lit up in glowing color, marching bands and dancers in elaborate costume, extraordinary fireworks displays, and an atmosphere of joy and celebration that draws visitors to the town from all around.
However, not everyone can make it all of the way to San Jose for the festival, so across the country there are smaller celebrations the same weekend, including one today in Potrero. A group will be leaving from Central at 3pm to head into town and watch the parade, which will feature members of all ages in the Potrero community as they perform, dance, and celebrate the festival. The parade will start at 4pm just up the paved road from the Potrero soccer field, where it will then proceed into town, circling around as the performers bring the whole town to life. Afterward, there will be a dinner in town with all comers welcome, to continue the celebration of Festival de la Luz and the festive season. It's an event that brings together much of the local community around Las Catalinas, and definitely worth seeing if you get the chance.
