Today is the 197th anniversary of Costa Rica’s Independencia. It is a national day of celebration, community and reliving traditions. There are many events around the 15 de setiembre celebration. Children have no classes, but they go to school for a very special day (they can go with the traditional Costa Rican clothing). They have parades, sing different anthems, do theater plays or speeches about civism, history and tradition, participate in folkloric dances and a very important part of it all is the band playing. Starting one month before Independence day if you pass by schools around 5.30pm you will see the band practicing for today’s performance. If you have passed by Potrero’s plaza de futbol during the evening this past month, you must of heard the bell lyra which is definitely the most recognizable sound of the celebration. In the area adults and children are enjoying today’s celebration with fantastic weather and a lovely sunny morning.
Here in town skies are blue, it is not that humid and there is a nice breeze, with winds starting to pick up (coming from the North in the morning and from the West in the afternoon) and so, waves are now starting to increase in height. It’s a great day for boogie boarding and fun in the waves, with low tide being at midday. Temperatures will range between low and mid 80s.
