It's Malinche tree blooming season. All bright orange patches you see in mountains now are Royal Poincianas or Flamboyants. Soon after they get completely covered by their large orange-reddish flowers the trees produce hanging seed pods. These pods are quite long- up to 75cms- and wood like... Kids love using them as maracas (isn't it amazing that musical instruments can fall from trees?).

I find looking below a recently bloomed Malinche tree is always a reminder of how lucky we are to live in a place with such fertile soil. Hundreds of small trees can be collected to re-plant.
