In this Daily: A Misty Morning with Calm Waters, Perfect for PVR’s “How To Paddle Board”

It’s a cool and misty morning in town today. Temperatures are in the high 70s, and there’s a gentle rain falling intermittently, bringing with it fresh and clean air. Out on the water, the waves are gentle as well, breaking about 50 yards offshore and lazily making their way to the beach.

Mornings like these are perfect to set out on a paddle board to search for life among the shores around Las Catalinas, and thanks to Pura Vida Ride’s four new additions to the fleet as well as their friendly coaching on how to paddle board, it’s a great day to try for the first time.

When the Rain Brings New Life: Costa Rica on a Paddle Board

Days like these are perfect to get out on a paddle board and explore along the shores of the Danta, Dantita, Punta Penca, and beyond. This is true for a couple of reasons. First, the gentle waves make for easy navigation along the shoreline, meaning you can relax and focus on exploring and enjoying the paddle. For more experienced paddlers, the gentle conditions mean that you can safely maneuver in among the rock reefs, searching for tropical reef fish like the golden trevally, queen angels, and the rare eagle ray from above.

The muted sunlight and the rainfall also contribute to this burst of life in two ways. The gentle temperatures, a break from the sun, and refreshing mist are enjoyable and reinvigorating. Also, the slightly lower light and greatly increased nutrients from the rain mean that animals and fish are more active. Visibility is slightly reduced, but not by much, so if you’re out today, keep an eye out along the shoreline for mammals peeking through the trees, and take a moment every once in a while to peek beneath the surface.

Learning How to Paddle Board with Pura Vida Ride

Today is a great day to learn how to paddle board, or to even to refine your skills with one of Pura Vida Ride’s paddle boarding coaches. Out on the gentle waves on a day like this, you have a glassy platform to get comfortable with 360 degrees of movement, practice techniques like quick turns and pivots, and master balancing on the board.

Pura Vida Ride officially has four new boards today -- three inflatables available to purchase, and a new  blue solid body for their rental fleet -- so there’s no better time to try out some fresh new equipment and get settled.
