The sun has returned today, bringing with it warmer temperatures and perfect weather for spending the day in the water! Expect highs around 85 with a breeze cooling things off for most of the morning, and a high tide around midday falling off as we reach the afternoon. After so much rain the past week, blue sky is a welcome change of pace, and town is practically shining in the sun.

Speaking of change, one of the most visible changes in the heart of Las Catalinas has been the construction of the Santarena Hotel. As the structure itself, or the grey work, is nearing completion, the team has begun adding detail and color to the building, a process called finishing.

The majority of the finishing work is actually being done on site, with unique methods that were developed specifically for Santarena. For example, all of the tiles and floor materials (seen above) in Santarena are being made by hand using traditional techniques that are hundreds of years old, and molds that were created in the town’s workshop.

Another example is the doors that will mark all of the entrances and exits to Santarena. These are also handmade, and painted a very specific shade that was created for this project. The color is designed to evoke the sea near Las Catalinas, which is never quite blue, never quite green.

Exciting progress!
