Two things that you are almost certain to find around town at any time of year are mountain bikes and people out exercising. During this week, in particular, it can seem as though bikes and athletes are everywhere you look, most getting ready for El TRI.
Some competitors, like the group of bikers from San José finishing their ride down the smooth last leg of La Cuesta early this morning, are in town already, wrapping up their training and getting used to the course. In Plaza Central, arriving cars both this morning and yesterday afternoon have had mountain bikes on the back a bit more than usual, and there will be more to come.
Over coffee on the Copper & Stone terrace, two residents were sharing tips for the taper and how to prepare for the race during these last few days. The TRI is a chance for the athletes who live here to race solo or form teams with friends both visiting and from around town, and with the weather warm and breezy the conditions have been ideal to be out getting ready the past few days.
Around it all, there’s an air of anticipation. Everyone is looking ahead to this Saturday.
