Costa Rica's Independence Day Celebrations in Town

Written by Fiorella Vargas | Sep 15, 2025 11:00:00 PM

Today, Costa Rica celebrates its Independence Day. Last Friday, Town hosted a very special celebration, and here’s how it went.

In the morning, students from Elif School paraded through Town with their faroles and festive costumes, filling the streets with light and color.

Later in the afternoon, ten Las Catalinas team members ran with the children from Potrero School from the Potrero's Plaza to Las Catalinas, to bring the lit torch into Town, where it was placed at Plaza Mercado. Just after the torch was lit, a heavy rain began to fall, but the celebration carried on. Families, residents, and neighbors gathered under the tent to enjoy traditional Costa Rican dishes like arroz con leche, arroz de maíz, chorreadas, and tamal de elote.

Eventually, the rain stopped, and the Tempate's Dance Group continued the festivities with traditional dances in their colorful costumes, bringing music, joy, and culture to Town.

To close the celebration, a marimba group filled the afternoon and evening with the sound of traditional Costa Rican music.

We thank our Head of Community Outreach, Commercial Sales Manager, and our commercial partners for making this day possible. It was a day filled with food, dance, and tradition, a reminder of the values of freedom and democracy that Costa Rica celebrates each September 15. We are proud to come together in Town to honor and commemorate such a meaningful day.
