Celebrating Love in Town

Written by Fiorella Vargas | Aug 9, 2026, 10:59:59 PM

The second weekend of July was an especially meaningful one in Town, as one of our residents and longtime Las Catalinas Sales Agents, Katherine, married her fiancé, Thomas, surrounded by the community and the places that have become part of their story together.

For the last five years, Katherine has played an important role in helping others experience a different way of living in Las Catalinas and Costa Rica. Yet her contribution to Town extends far beyond her work. Known for her athletic and adventurous spirit, she even won her age group in the full-distance triathlon at XTERRA Costa Rica 2024.

She is also exceptionally kind, joyful, and generous, always willing to help, welcome someone for a home-cooked meal, offer a listening ear, or share one of the warm smiles for which she is so well known.

Thomas has become an equally special part of the community. Together, they have built a life shaped not only by their own adventures, but also by a genuine commitment to the people around them. Both are actively involved with the youth group at Beach Community Church, where they work closely with young people from Brasilito and Katherine also hosts a Bible study for young girls in Town.

Their wedding was a joyful celebration held in the very place where so much of their love story has unfolded. Brian, one of Las Catalinas’ Senior Sales Agents, officiated the ceremony, a testament to the strong sense of community and family in Town that made the occasion even more meaningful. Kathy and Thomas exchanged vows in Plaza Agave, surrounded by family, friends, and members of the community. Following the ceremony, the celebration continued along Paseo del Mar with a lively pasacalles, accompanied by marimba and traditional Guanacastecan music.

Dinner and the reception continued at Ponciana, followed by a party in the Conservatory, where guests danced well into the night. Many described it as one of the best weddings they had ever attended, filled with dancing, joy and the warmth, energy, and sense of community that feel so true to Katherine and Thomas.

Their departure may have been the most fitting detail of all. Known for the many hours they have spent exploring the trails together, the newlyweds said goodbye to their guests aboard their bicycles, this time with a “Just Married” sign trailing behind them.

Katherine has given so much to the Las Catalinas community through her work, her friendships, her faith, and the generous way she shows up for others. It was a true joy to witness the beginning of this new chapter and to see Las Catalinas become part of yet another meaningful moment in their story.

We wish the newlyweds every happiness as they begin married life together. We are grateful to have shared in their celebration and especially happy that Las Catalinas could be the place where this new chapter, and a new family in Town, begins.
