Today is July 25th, and we pause to honor La Anexión del Partido de Nicoya. A day that holds deep meaning in Costa Rica, especially here in Guanacaste.

Yesterday in Town, we gathered to celebrate this moment in history together.

On this date in 1824, the Partido de Nicoya became part of Costa Rica. This marked the expansion of what is now the province of Guanacaste, including the area where Las Catalinas is located. It was a peaceful and voluntary decision, and it is deeply meaningful because it reflects Costa Rica’s identity and the enduring presence of peace in this land. In a previous edition of The Daily, we shared the schedule of activities and the meaning behind this date. If you’d like to revisit it, you can read it here.

Plaza Danta came alive with music, color, tradition, and joy. Collaborators, residents, and visitors filled the space, creating a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere that captured the very best of what it means to be in Guanacaste.

Folkloric dances by the Senior and Tempate Dance Groups brought Costa Rican tradition to life. The Banda de Cartagena and the Marimba Orchestra filled the air with rhythm and celebration. There was laughter, dancing, delicious food, and a deep sense of community.

To everyone who joined us, thank you. These moments matter, as they remind us where we come from and why we love where we are. It was a joy to share such a lively expression of Costa Rican folklore together.
