A couple weeks ago, an avid trail user was running through the trails when he was suddenly stopped in his tracks by another trail user crossing the path as well: an anteater. He paused, slowed down, and captured a beautiful video as the animal moved calmly and deliberately through the trail.
Anteaters are solitary, slow moving animals, often seen searching for food. Their diet consists almost entirely of ants and termites, which they locate using an exceptional sense of smell. With strong claws and a long, sticky tongue, they feed efficiently while causing minimal disturbance to their surroundings. Sightings like this often occur as they move between feeding areas or follow their daily routes through the forest.
Take a look at the anteater below.
From a tarantula to an anteater, the trails offer a front row seat to Costa Rica’s wildlife. Exploring them often comes with unexpected encounters, quiet moments when nature reveals itself in passing. Sightings like these feel less like coincidences and more like small miracles along the way.
