After several days of heavy rain in Town, it almost felt like the weather knew Saturday was meant for Playdate.
The clouds cleared, the sun came out, and Plaza Mercado turned into the kind of summer day everyone had been waiting for. Bright, warm, and full of families, friends, guests, and neighbors spending time outside, enjoying the games, stopping by local businesses, and officially beginning this new Town activity together.
Organized by Commercial Leasing, Playdate is a family-friendly passport activity created to invite residents, guests, and visitors to explore more of Town by visiting participating businesses, collecting stamps, and enjoying the small experiences that make Las Catalinas feel lively and connected. The activity will continue through August 1, giving everyone time to fill their passport at their own pace and enter for the chance to win the final raffle prize.
Last Saturday, June 20, marked the official inauguration of Playdate, and by the end of the day, 412 people had joined the opening activity. Families came from Las Catalinas, Playa Grande, El Coco, and nearby communities, bringing a beautiful sense of energy to Plaza Mercado.
The inflatables quickly became the main attraction. Children ran, jumped, climbed, and played under a clear blue sky, while some of the grown-ups could not resist joining in too. Around the plaza, games like cornhole and Jenga added to the easygoing atmosphere, giving families, guests, and friends a reason to stay a little longer, laugh a little louder, and enjoy a Saturday outdoors. Throughout the day, many families asked about the Playdate passports, curious to begin collecting stamps and visiting the participating businesses. It became exactly what the activity was meant to be: a fun and simple way to spend time in Town, support local shops and restaurants, enjoy something good to eat, head to the beach, rest for a while, and slowly make your way through the Playdate experience.
The day had that sweet weekend feeling that happens when Town is full, the sun is out, and everyone seems to be moving at their own rhythm. Some came for the games, some for the inflatables, some for lunch or coffee, and some to pick up their passports and start playing for the prizes that Playdate has prepared for participants.
If you have not picked up your passport yet, there is still time. Playdate continues until August 1, and passports can be collected at any of the participating businesses while supplies last. From there, the idea is simple: visit, enjoy, collect your stamps, and keep exploring Town one stop at a time.
The opening day gave us a beautiful first glimpse of what Playdate can bring to Town over the coming weeks: more families walking around, more reasons to visit local businesses, more sunny afternoons spent outside, and more small moments that make Town feel full of life.
